Full History

After serving in World War II, Wallace Miller returned home and opened the first Miller Funeral Home in Columbia Heights, MN. In 1969, he expanded his business and opened the Miller Funeral Home-Fridley Chapel located at 6210 Highway 65 in Fridley. He again expanded his business in 1975 by purchasing the Brighton Funeral Home in New Brighton, MN, and the Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home in Anoka, MN.

After his death in 1985, the funeral homes were operated by Wallace’s son, Kim Miller, and his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Daniel DeShaw. After the death of Wallace’s wife, Mary, in 1993, their children separated the businesses. Kim purchased the Miller Funeral Home-Fridley Chapel; Joyce and Daniel purchased the Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home in Anoka.

In 2010, Kim Miller retired from funeral service and sold the Miller Funeral Home-Fridley Chapel to his brother-in-law, Daniel DeShaw, and his partner, Tom Vertin. In 2015, the partners expanded the business and opened Choice Cremation-Miller’s on University in Fridley. They also own and operate Choice Crematory, an on-site crematory which ensures that families who choose cremation have the peace of mind in knowing their loved one never leaves their care.

The funeral professionals at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory are proud to continue their legacy of exceptional service, honored to care for others in their greatest time of need, and grateful for the many years of loyalty from families in Fridley and the surrounding area.
