Carolyn was born on June 19th, 1934 in a small town in Upper Michigan. Her parents were Thomas and Martha Jurmu and she was the 6th of 7 children. Carolyn later moved to Duluth, MN where she graduated from high school. She met Paul Olson at Bethel Baptist Church in Duluth, where they were married in August of 1952.

She and Paul were active in several different churches including Elim Baptist, Eden Prairie Baptist, Minnetonka Baptist, First Presbyterian in Stillwater and Plymouth Congregational.
Carolyn worked in the market research industry for many years in Minneapolis. This experience led to her opening her own company in 1984, C.J. Olson Market Research, Inc. She built and ran this company for over 20 years.
She was a driven businesswoman, an advocate for those who struggled and a wonderful hostess for more gatherings than any of us can count.
