Delores Maureen (Ketter) Mellum

August 27, 1932 ~ March 29, 2019 (age 86)

Delores M. Mellum (nee Ketter), of Fridley, passed away on March 29, 2019. She was 86 years old.

Delores “Delly” Mellum was born August 27, 1932 to Frank and Maylinda (Karger) Ketter in Frazee, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and graduated from Frazee High School.

On April 29, 1961, Delly was united in marriage to Lowell Mellum in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lowell and Delly made their home and raised their children in Fridley. The family moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1971, but returned to Fridley in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Maylinda; her husband, Lowell and daughter, Kim (Kimmer) Mellum.

She is survived by her son, Ron (Lois) Mellum of Rogers, MN; two grandchildren, Jon and Krista.

Delly was a very devoted, loving and nurturing mother and grandmother. She was very close to and adored her family. She was “Granny” to Jon & Krista.

Delly was happiest outdoors and at Bone Lake. She could often be found fishing off the dock using the biggest bobber in the tackle box. She practiced “Catch and Release” long before it became popular. The “Catch and Release” was unintentional as “setting the hook” was a knack she never quite mastered.

Every morning at the cabin she would take her bible, her cup of coffee and her faithful companion Thunder, the chocolate lab, and sit at the end of the dock reading devotions while Thunder waded in the water looking for minnows

Delly would stay on the dock most of the day, either reading or just watching the lake activity and the eagles. She would always be the first one on the pontoon when it came time for the evening cruise around the lake.

Delly was always pleasant with a smile and wave for everyone. She wasn’t one to complain. If something didn’t turn out as planned she would say “no lives lost”. If asked how she was doing she would say “great...no, really I’m doing ok” even if she wasn’t.

Delly had many friends...her dear travel friend & confidant Jean, the McDonald's morning coffee group, the old Regis Trail neighborhood gang, the Bone Lakers, friends from church, and many others.

Delly’s smile and pleasant demeanor will be greatly missed by all that met her.

Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2nd at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
