Avellene grew up in Little Falls, MN with her parents and nine siblings, went to our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School through eighth grade and graduated from Little Falls High School. While growing up in Little Falls, she dated Leonard Steinert. Avellene moved to St. Paul where she attended the University of Minnesota to become an X-Ray Technician. Her husband to-be-traveled to St. Paul often and they eventually married.
Leonard and Avellene settled in Fridley MN in 1956 and raised five daughters. In between caring for five children, keeping up a home, and working as an X-Ray Tech, Avellene enjoyed bowling, bridge club, golf, sewing amazing clothes for her girls and attending their many sporting events, concerts, and recitals. Avellene also enjoyed getting together with her brothers and sisters and their families, especially the annual Wilczek Family picnic, neighbors, and friends too numerous to mention.
Avellene completed the newspaper crossword every day, aways had a book going, and volunteered at St. Williams on many occasions. She was a speedy cribbage player and enjoyed her nightly Manhattan.
