Chuck Chin, born December 6, 1941, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026. A respected martial artist, teacher, and entrepreneur, Chuck Chin devoted a lifetime to the study and preservation of Southern Praying Mantis kung fu, particularly within the Chow Gar lineage. Known for a disciplined and traditional approach, Chuck Chin influenced generations of students and earned lasting respect within the martial arts community.
In addition to martial arts, Chuck Chin was a business owner and served as chief executive officer of Tai Pan Ltd., operating the Taipan Restaurant in Fridley, Minnesota beginning in the 1990s and continuing for many years thereafter. Chuck Chin was well loved by friends, customers, and students, and will be remembered for dedication, integrity, and generosity of spirit. Chuck Chin is survived by two brothers, Henry Chin and James Chin; sisters‑in‑law Priscilla Chin and Lisa Chin; and many nieces and nephews. A private Buddhist ceremony will be held.
