Clayton LeRoy Harris

September 5, 1930 — February 17, 2024

Spring Lake Park

Clayton LeRoy Harris was born on September 5, 1930, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Paul Harris and Beatrice (Peterson) Harris. He was the youngest of three siblings. Growing up in the Depression as a youth, his parents moved frequently, and therefore, he attended 14 different schools.

Clay followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a chef. He used these skills as a Mess Sergeant in the Army. (1948-1951). After the military, Clay continued to use his cooking skills in various ways. He owned his own restaurants, where he invented the Clayton Burger (a breaded, deep-fried hamburger) as well as managing many restaurants/cafeterias for other companies.

In 1948, he met the love of his life, Valeria Schlobohm; together they raised three daughters, Linda, Laurie and Kelly. They were married for 67 years and during those years enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and camping.

All through his life, Clay was a faithful husband and father, who raised his family to know and love the Lord. This is a treasure for which his family is all so immensely thankful.

Clay served in many capacities at Prince of Peace Church, including President, Trustee, Board of Elders, and Kitchen Manager, serving many delicious meals for the school, funerals, and special events. His last service at church was also in the kitchen, where he made delicious cinnamon rolls, cookies, bread and other tasty treats for fellowship time.

Clay is survived by daughters, Linda (Marv), Laurie (Dan) and Kelly. Seven grandchildren: Brooke, Shawn (Holly), Corey (Amanda), Jacquie (Blake), Dianna, Katie and Kristen (Justin). Six great-grandchildren: Eli, Andrew, Sam, Abby, Georgia, Finn and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Valeria (Schlobohm) Harris; sister, Viollette Dailey and brother, Paul Harris.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Prince of Peace Church (https://ppslp.org/), Red Cross, or Saint Judes.
