David "Dave" Adam Burbul, age 60, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 26, 2025. Born on August 22, 1965, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to David and Janet Burbul, Dave lived a life rich with connection, adventure, and an unwavering sense of calm-always believing there was a solution to every challenge and never once panicking along the way.
After many years together, Dave and Dawn were married on July 14, 2024. With Dawn came a family he cherished deeply: Corey (Brianna) Rose and their children Oskar, Aubry, and Charlotte, Shawn (Sarah) Rose and their sons Roman and Thomas, Dylan Rose, and Kaitlin and her fiancé Austin Lahr.
One of Dave's greatest loves was his daughter Ashley Burbul, along with her husband Matthew Sherry and their son Eli, who brought him endless joy-and plans for a future hunting and fishing buddy. Dave also considered Olivia Steinke his "bonus daughter," and she held a very special place in his life.
Dave will be missed by his parents David A. Burbul and Janet S. Burbul, siblings: Sherilyn Frisque, Jason (Eden), and Joshua (Irene), along with several nieces and nephews.
Dave often spoke of his dream to one day have a place and a boat on Mille Lacs Lake, spending long days fishing with his family. In his own words: "And you can finally keep fish-so I'm in heaven." We believe he is right where he imagined.
A true outdoorsman, Dave had a lifelong love of fishing, hunting, and sitting around the firepit with people he loved. He proudly created #Huntthe500 with his brother Frank Shelafoe, a tradition and community that brought him pride and joy. Dave had an extensive knowledge about tv and movies. He enjoyed watching them so much it often seemed like he'd seen things before they even came out and would often drop a random reference in casual conversation.
Self-employed for many years, Dave even built his own home-an accomplishment that reflected his determination and work ethic. He later worked as a dealer at Black Bear Casino until COVID-19. After the pandemic, Dave decided to pursue the dream he had carried since he was young: driving truck. He was excited and proud to finally begin that journey with Halvor Lines in 2021.
Dave leaves behind a legacy of resilience, loyalty, humor, and a quiet strength that guided him-and others-through life's challenges. His love of the outdoors, his deep care for his family, and his confident (and sometimes stubborn) belief that he was always right will be remembered with a smile.
He will be forever loved and forever missed. A gathering of family and friends will be held on December 13th, 2025 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Complete Wedding & Events, 525 Southview Blvd. South St Paul, MN 55075. Tacos and chicken wings will be served. May he be remembered with a smile.
