Donald Lee Mariette, a cherished member of the Minneapolis community, passed away on June 10, 2025, leaving a legacy of love and laughter that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. Born on February 25, 1955, Donald lived a life rich with experiences, spending over twenty years dedicated to his career at Bargain Mart, where he made countless friends along the way.
Known for his unwavering honesty, Donald was a man who never shied away from sharing his thoughts. He was stubborn at times, but his straightforward nature was tempered by a great sense of humor that could brighten the darkest of days. Those who interacted with him quickly learned that Donald had a unique ability to uplift spirits while telling it like it is, often leaving a smile on everyone’s face.
Donald found joy in simplicity; he loved the serenity of a cabin by the water, reveled in outings on his boat, and could often be found with a can of Coke and a cigarette in hand. His true happiness blossomed during the Christmas season, a time he cherished wholeheartedly, bringing warmth and cheer to all those around him.
He was not only a passionate individual but also a compassionate one. Donald treated everyone with kindness, embracing friends and strangers alike as part of his extended family. His caring nature emanated through every interaction, ensuring that no one ever felt alone or undervalued in his presence.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Chounnavong; his doting daughter, Paula Mariette; and his son, John Mariette. He leaves behind the loving support of his sister, Linda Mariette; his brothers, Kenny and Rollie Mariette; as well as his stepdaughters, Katherine Khatthavong and Carol Kosel. He will also be sadly missed by his cousin, Rick Mariette, and a multitude of friends who were touched by his spirit.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Patricia Mariette, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms in the great beyond. Their guiding influence and love played an integral role in shaping the remarkable man he became.
As we gather to remember Donald, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life marked by laughter, forthrightness, and a genuine affinity for connection. While he may no longer walk among us, his essence—his humor, his candor, and his immense capacity for love—will remain etched in our hearts forever. Don, you will be missed immeasurably. Your legacy of kindness will continue to shine brightly in the memories you leave behind.
