Eva (Ahlman) Coverston
October 29, 1929 - June 8, 2026
Fridley MN
Eva (Ahlman) Coverston, age 96, died on Monday, June 8th, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Franz Ahlman and Martha (Smuda von Trzebiatowski) Ahlman; her 8 siblings, Arthur ("Art"), Herman, William ("Bill"), Herbert, Martin ("Cap"), Louise (Walt) Smith, Laura (Bill) Knauss (Marv) Thompson and Robert ("Bob"); her husband, Clem Z. Coverston, Jr.; and, her daughter Pamela (Vern) Harris. She married Clem in 1952 in Morristown MN and was blessed with three children: Pamela (Vern) Harris, Cathy (David) Coverston Anderson, and Daniel (Trish) Coverston. Her grandchildren are Mike (Kim) Harris; Jenny Harris; Katherine, Michael Carter and Jacob Anderson; Tyler (Chelsea) Coverston; and, Bethany (Darnell) Coverston. There are also five great-grandchildren: Nathan and Evan Harris; Matthew and Jacob Coverston; and, Owen Belanger. Eva graduated from Morristown (MN) High School in 1947, earned an A.D. (1951) and B.S. (1968) from St. Cloud State University, and acquired Learning Disabilities Certification from the University of Minnesota. Eva loved teaching. In her early years, she was a piano teacher; and later, she taught special education students throughout her 20-year career (8/25/1971 - 6/13/1991) at Mounds View (MN) Public Schools as a Special Learning Disabilities teacher at Bel Air Elementary School in New Brighton MN. Her family, friends and church were her priorities. Times with grandchildren were always treasured; trips abroad with friends were a joy; and being out at the lake cabin on Long Lake near Isanti, alone or with others, was one of her favorite places. For many years, Eva worked diligently on a family genealogy, resulting in a booklet, "The Ahlmann-Smuda Family Story" that notes ancestors traced back to 1825 and 1550. Eva and Clem became members of St. Philip's Lutheran Church in Fridley in 1961, after moving to the area from Lake Mills, Iowa. Eva remained an active member of St. Philip's throughout her life, participating in the adult choir, Joy Circle, library group, bridge groups, the annual garage sale and many service projects, including volunteering at Sharing & Caring Hands in Minneapolis.
