Gary Lee Rundle, 69, Mounds View, MN, passed away on August 15, 2026. He was born March 5, 1957 in Spring Lake Park, MN to Charles and Mary (Goff) Rundle.
Gary grew up in Spring Lake Park, MN where he played hockey and played the accordion at Park Music. He had three brothers, Larry, Bob, and Bill. His family was originally from New York, so they took many trips to visit family. Gary attended high school in Spring Lake Park, MN and graduated in 1975. He then went on to get a technical certificate at Anoka Tech to work as a mechanic.
In 1972, Gary met the love of his life, Cynthia “Cindy” Kirchner. They met at Park Music in Spring Lake Park where they were both musicians. On a music competition trip to Omaha, Nebraska, they became friends and decades long love ensued. They dated for 7 years and were married on September 22, 1979. Soon after, they started a family and had twins, Melinda "Mindy" and Michael "Mike, and another daughter, Kelsey. They purchased their first home in Mounds View when their twins were born and then moved to a bigger home in Mounds View in anticipation of having another baby.
Gary worked as mechanic, then switched to being a Meter Reader for Xcel Energy. Later in life, he shifted roles into becoming a Material Handler in Charge where he helped the crews obtain all the equipment needed for their jobs. He truly loved his job and his coworkers alike. Both him and Cindy retired at the age of 60 and continued with their favorite things.
Gary loved to cruise and travel, volunteering, was a St. Tim's council member, and enjoyed being an active member of many different parts of the city of Mounds View as well as a Mounds View Lions Club member. He loved fishing and hunting. He regularly went on fishing trips to Canada and many other places. He had a deer stand on a good friend’s land that he loved to go hunting at. Gary especially loved to cruise. Gary and Cindy went to Alaska, California, Panama Canal, Caribbean, and the Northeast coast of the United States and into Canada. Their Panama Canal cruise was especially memorable for them as they renewed their wedding vows on this cruise and celebrated their retirement.
Gary was very involved in his children’s activities growing up. He coached many hockey and softball teams, and was always there to drive them to practice and cheer them on as they played in their various sports. He loved being an active part of his grandchildren’s lives and never missed an opportunity to see them in action.
Gary was citizen of the year for the city of Mounds View in 2025.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Cindy Rundle; children, Mindy Weizenegger, Mike (Sara) Rundle, and Kelsey Day; and grandchildren; Hannah, Joseph, Casey, Cadence, Bailey, Taylor, Allison, Charles, Bennett, and Leo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Rundle; and nephew Brodie Rundle.
