In Loving Memory of Georgia Jean Gebeck (Fairbanks)
Georgia Jean Gebeck (Fairbanks), age 81, passed away peacefully on her 81st birthday, July 10, 2026. She was born on July 10, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where her life's journey began, and was raised on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.
Georgia shared a loving marriage with her devoted husband, Lawrence "Kip" Gebeck. Together, they built a home in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, where they lovingly raised their four children and created a lifetime of cherished memories centered on family, love, and togetherness.
She was a devoted mother to Chris Gebeck, Timothy Gebeck, Nicole Gebeck, and Paula Gebeck. Her greatest joy came from watching her family grow through the generations.
Georgia leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Kayla Gebeck Carroll (Quinton), Jordan Zickermann (Deaunte), Madison Gebeck (Andrew), Nathan Gebeck, Austria Lewis, Jaylen Gebeck, and Clara Gebeck. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Cedar Carroll, Oakley Carroll, and Rowyn Hammer, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.
She is also survived by her mother, Melvina Smith of Red Lake; her siblings, Paul Smith (Norine), Rumdy Smith, Neddy Maher (Jim), Paula Cotter, and another sibling, along with many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart. Family was everything to Georgia, and she treasured every opportunity to gather with those she loved.
Georgia was a proud member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. Her heritage and connection to her community were an important part of who she was and the legacy she leaves behind.
Georgia was preceded in death by her biological father, Maynard Fairbanks, who passed away when she was just three years old. She was lovingly raised by Paul Smith Sr., who played an important role in her life and was her "dad". She was also preceded in death by her brother Ira Smith, grandson Jackson Gebeck, special cousin Joe B, Auntie Pat, and Auntie Dinks.
A dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse, Georgia devoted her professional life to caring for others. Nursing was more than a profession-it was her calling. She took great pride in faithfully maintaining her certifications year after year, always striving to provide the highest standard of care to every patient she served. Her kindness, professionalism, and unwavering compassion left a lasting impression on countless lives.
To know Georgia was to love her. She had the kind of laugh that filled an entire room, often laughing before she could even finish telling her own jokes. She had a true love for everyone she met and could hold a long conversation with anyone she crossed paths with. Whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or someone she had just met, Georgia made you feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
She was "Gramie" not only to her own grandchildren but to anyone who needed a grandmother's love. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and generosity, and no one ever left empty-handed. Whether it was a thoughtful gift, leftovers to take home, or simply a warm hug and words of encouragement, Georgia always found a way to give of herself.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures-a challenging puzzle spread across the table, searching for the best BOGO deals and clearance racks, and spending treasured time at the family's beloved home away from home at Onegume Campground, nestled within the Chippewa National Forest. Those moments created countless memories that her family will forever hold close to their hearts.
Georgia will be remembered for her generous heart, quiet strength, unwavering devotion to her family, and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel like they belonged. The love she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the kindness she showed so freely will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In accordance with Georgia's wishes, no formal services will be held.
The family appreciates your thoughts, prayers, and expressions of sympathy during this difficult time. Condolences may be shared with her husband, Lawrence "Kip" Gebeck, and the family.
While her passing saddens our hearts, we are forever grateful for the love she shared and the legacy she leaves behind. Her spirit lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, dear friends, and all whose lives she touched.
We love you forever. We will like you for always. As long as we are living, my wife, mother, daughter, sister, Gramie, you'll be.
