Grace Wilson, Age 88, of Fridley, Minnesota passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul where they shared almost 65 years of marriage, parents Otto and Rose Riemenschneider, and sister Doris Fritsche.
Grace is survived by her loving children Steve (Andrea), Tim (Heather), and Sandy (Jack); and her cherished grandchildren Joshua, Benjamin, Lauren, Elizabeth, Caroline, Tommy, and Jimmy, who brought her immense joy. She is also survived by close family and friends whom she enjoyed time together with throughout her life.
Grace grew up on a farm and often talked about her dog, Pal. She also liked to remind her family that she walked uphill both ways to school, used an outhouse all winter, and learned in a one-room schoolhouse heated by a fire—stories that captured her humor and resilience.
She was a devoted mother through and through. She wouldn’t have traded the title of Mom for any other vocation. She ensuring her children made it to school events, sports and band practices, camps, and countless hours at ice rinks, while always keeping a hot meal on the table. As children, we could count on a hot breakfast each morning before school and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. Her “world famous” hotdish and sloppy joes were family favorites. She also loved her 20-year role as a cook for Columbia Heights Schools, where she built lasting relationships and took pride in caring for others. She was proud to have 1 or 2 recipes contained with the St. Philip's Lutheran Church cookbook.
Grace and Paul treasured time with friends. This included the “eights” composed of high school friends and spouses. They enjoyed occasional road trips around the county and loved going on cruises. Our parents often wondered why us children didn’t understand how amazing the “cruising life” is. Of course, we hope to have time to partake in some of these adventures.
Grace loved to laugh and enjoyed reading romance novels, watching the TV news, and keeping up with the daily newspaper. She especially treasured time with her grandchildren. Her face absolutely lit up when one of her grandchildren called, walked into a room for a visit or simply let her know how much they loved her through a phone call.
Over the past year, Grace lived at Trinity Care Center in Farmington where she found a welcoming and loving community combined with exceptional care. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff, especially her nurse Sue, for their compassion throughout her time at Trinity. Following a fall and surgery, Grace faced a difficult recovery that would be too much for her. A highlight in her final days was her 89th birthday where she was able to celebrate with all of her children for her final birthday. She passed peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones at Trinity. Grace touched the lives of many through her warmth, humor, and generosity. We love you Mom and miss you dearly.
Visitation will begin at 10am until time of service at 11am on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, Fridley. Grace and Paul will be laid to rest together during a private family service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
