James "Jim" Gilbert Ferguson

James “Jim” Ferguson, age 85, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026. He was born on February 12, 1941, in Austin, Minnesota, where he grew up and spent much of his life.

Jim was a proud Army veteran who served his country during the Vietnam era, making Big John rockets in support of the war effort. He was an accomplished athlete and outdoorsman, boxing in high school and becoming an expert and decorated pool player. He loved fishing and hunting and, later in life, enjoyed bingo, visiting casinos, traveling, and dancing to old-time country music.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie Gould; son, Tim (Susie) Ferguson; daughter, Debbie (Jim) Sveum; siblings, Julie, Todd, Kevin, and Gilbert “Skip”; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews whom Jim dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Eva, and his brother, Vernon “Squeek.”

A visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home, Fridley on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial gifts in Jim’s memory. Your kindness and generosity are sincerely appreciated, but most of all, we are thankful for the love, prayers, and memories shared with our family during this difficult time.

Jim will be remembered for his love of family, his many talents and interests, his adventurous spirit, and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
