Jon Bruce Larson

New Brighton

Jon Larson passed away in his home at the age of 90 on January 5, 2024. A funeral will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., Messiah Lutheran Church, 2848 County Road H2, Mounds View, MN, 55112 with visitation one hour prior. Light lunch to follow service. The family will have a private interment later at Ft. Snelling Cemetery.

Jon Larson was born July 19, 1933 in Dawson, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. 

Jon was a graduate of Dawson High School and St. Cloud State University. He was a Military Policeman in the Army and served in Korea before coming home to begin his career as a history teacher and coach. His first teaching job was in Kimball, MN where he met his wife, Helen.

Jon taught in Kimball 7 years and Spring Lake Park for 26 years before retiring. In his spare time, he enjoyed being with his family and friends, golfing, and watching all sports. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, the Silver Fox Golf League, the American Legion and VFW, where he enjoyed gathering with fellow veterans and friends. Jon was quick-witted and always loved a good joke. His faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ, was his refuge and strength.

Jon and Helen were united in marriage on August 30, 1959, in Fairhaven, MN. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage and had three children: Bruce, Andrea, and Allyson. They were blessed with seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

Jon was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Helen Kothe Larson, son Bruce (Jill), daughters Andrea (Jon) and Allyson (Hal), seven grandchildren:  Ashley, Jacob, Briel (Brad), Carston (LaToya), Camille, Henry, and John; great-grandsons: Leon and Landon.
