Kathryn Anne Taaffe, age 88, of New Brighton, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026.
Kathryn was born on June 21, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to John James Taaffe and Grace Kathryn (Searles) Taaffe (aka Kathryn Grace Taaffe). She lived a life defined by independence, determination, and a genuine love for both her family and those around her.
Kathryn enjoyed a successful career as an architectural specifier, where her attention to detail and strong work ethic were evident throughout her professional life. She also pursued her passion for aviation, earning her pilot's license—an accomplishment that reflected her adventurous spirit. Family members fondly remember the excitement of flying with her as she gave the children airplane rides during visits to South Dakota.
Family was at the center of Kathryn's life. She looked forward to hosting her annual family pool parties, creating joyful traditions and lasting memories that her nieces, nephews, and younger family members continue to cherish. Her warmth, generosity, and welcoming nature made everyone feel at home, and she truly loved spending time with the people she cared about.
Kathryn embraced life with many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed playing golf and was an active member of a golf league, where she appreciated both the game and the friendships it brought. She was an avid fan of science fiction and fantasy books and movies, always ready to explore new worlds through stories. She also enjoyed card games and board games, especially when they brought family and friends together for an afternoon or evening of fun and laughter.
Kathryn had a special affection for cats and found great companionship in them throughout her life. She was also a devoted member of St. William Catholic Church, where she faithfully attended Mass and lived out her Catholic faith with quiet devotion.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald Taaffe, John James Taaffe II, Richard D. Taaffe Sr., and Robert "Bob" Taaffe; her nephews, Robert "Buddy" Taaffe, Michael Taaffe, and Dennis Taaffe; and her niece, Sharon Eichinger.
Kathryn is survived by her nephews, Vernon (Karina) Taaffe, Kevin (Mary) Taaffe, Howard (Julie) Holliday Jr., Brian (Robin) Taaffe, and Richard D. Taaffe Jr.; niece, Leanne (Kevin) Holliday, along with many extended family members and friends who will remember her with love and gratitude.
Kathryn will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, unwavering independence, kind heart, and the joy she brought to family gatherings. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared so generously. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
