LaVerne Schmidt

LaVerne (Ruff) Schmidt, age 95, of Plymouth, MN (formerly of St. Cloud), passed away peacefully on August 28 with family by her side. She is preceded in death by husband, John; sisters Geraldine and Marie; and brothers, Don, Hilary, and William. She is survived by daughters, Barbara (Don), Mary (Scott), and Lenora (Rick); grandchildren, Jeremy (Heather) and Amy (Troy); great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Annabelle, Jacob, Christian, and Caleb; brothers, Jim (Donna) and Richard (Pat).

LaVerne was born in Eden Valley, MN, on July 4, 1924. Her family later moved to St. Cloud where she graduated from St. Cloud Tech and attended business college. During WWII she was a riveter for Char-Gale and then worked for the telephone company for 15 years.

On May 30, 1958, she married John Schmidt. They farmed near Kimball before moving to Cottage Grove, MN. They missed country living so moved to a hobby farm near Clearwater. Here they shared many wonderful memories with family and friends.

LaVerne enjoyed the outdoors; camping, flower and vegetable gardening, and walking in the woods. She had many hobbies she loved; cooking, canning, and especially baking. She was talented at sewing, knitting, drawing, and writing.

A celebration of her wonderful life will be held on Sun, Sept 8 from 12-4PM with a service at 12:30 at the Elm Creek Chalet, 12400 James Deane Parkway, Maple Grove. Private burial at Fort Snelling at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to J.A. Wedum Hospice Foundation, Brooklyn Park.
