Michael "Mike" J. Kemp was born on March 3, 1960, and passed peacefully surrounded by his family on June 20th, 2025, at the age of 65. He grew up and graduated from Anoka.
He married Amy on July 13th, 1996, and they had two sons, John and Matt, who they are immensely proud of. They welcomed Ciarah to the family and the latest bundle of joy, Macy. She brought a twinkle to Mike's eyes.
Mike was an avid outdoors sportsman who was an 8-time archery state champion. He shot trap and skeet for many years on Willey's team. He enjoyed all kinds of hunting, including pheasant, antelope, deer and bear. He loved fishing, specifically for crappie and walleyes. He has had many fishing adventures, but his favorite fishing trip was Rainy Lake Canada with his sons. The trip was an annual tradition that was ongoing for over 20 years. He also loved the annual McGough fishing trip to Lake Winnibigoshish.
He was proud of his roots, calling himself a carpenter by trade. He spent his entire career of 43 years at McGough Construction. He loved to point out every project that McGough built. Over his career, Mike had many great friendships and memories with his coworkers that he cherished.
Mike retired at 62 and started to utilize the knowledge he gained over his career by working with his hands. Mike built things like planters for Amy, modified a snowblower into a "snowdog", wired electronics for his boat, and crafted a picnic table for his granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Teresa Cihunka; his father, Perl Kemp; and sisters Christina Kemp, Gigi Kemp, and Mary Rose Kemp.
Mike is survived by his wife, Amy; sons, John (Ciarah) and Matt Kemp; his granddaughter, Macy Kemp; siblings: Betty Hover, Kevin (Sue) Kemp, Joe (Carrie) Kemp, and Chuck (Merry) Kemp; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
