Michael Langaard Schauer was the only child of Doris Swanson Schauer and Lester Schauer. He was born in Minneapolis and spent most of his life there. For several years in the 1970s, Doris, Mike, and Doris’s sister, Ona Brameld, lived in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
In the early 1980s, the three of them moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota, where Doris and Ona had grown up. They lived in a beautiful Victorian house, the manse of the local Lutheran Church.
In the late 80s, Doris and Mike returned to Minneapolis, living together in Robbinsdale. When Doris passed away in 2004, Mike continued to live there by himself. In November, 2024, Mike suffered a stroke and subsequently moved into assisted living at Copperfield Hill, where he lived until his passing.
Since he was a small boy, Mike was a passionate auto enthusiast. He collected thousands of model cars, attended many car shows, and had a vast knowledge about all automobiles.
As a result of his love of cars, Mike developed a very special relationship with artist and specialty car builder Ed Roth of “Rat Fink” fame and his family. Ed considered Mike a son and nicknamed him Mike Harvard Schauer.
Mike attended technical school and received a degree in electronics which allowed him to pursue a career in the computer and printing industries.
Mike lived with his mother his whole life until her death. His wishes were to be laid to rest next to her in Lakewood Cemetery in Albert Lea. So it shall be.
Service will be held in the small chapel on the side of the building adjacent to the parking lot.
