Myrna Leanne Hjellming, a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, was born on August 24, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She left this world on April 18, 2025, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories woven with kindness and creativity.
Myrna’s professional journey was marked by dedication and a spirit of service. For 15 years, she proudly served the Hopkins Police Department and also lent her talents as a temporary employee at Robert Half Recruiters and Employment Agency. Myrna’s adventurous spirit led her to work with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Department where she discovered a passion for community service that transcended borders; her career even took her to Israel about a decade ago, a testament to her love for exploration and learning.
Education played a significant role in Myrna’s life. She graduated from high school and dedicated time to studying Russian- a language that captured her heart during her high school years. She studied at Anoka-Ramsey Community College and later at the University of Minnesota. Myrna’s thirst for knowledge was matched only by her many achievements, including various diplomas and certificates which she gathered along her educational journey. In the early 1970s, she ventured to Russia, immersing herself in the culture and language she so cherished.
Beyond her educational and career accomplishments, Myrna was known for her unique personality, often described as kind and caring. Her artistic talents flourished in her hobbies; she found joy in knitting, sewing, crocheting, and cross-stitching. The melodies of her clarinet filled her home, sharing a profound influence on her younger brother, Rick, and sparking a love for music.
Myrna loved animals and shared her life with three beloved Pomeranians, each adorably named and adored. Throughout her years, these companions provided her with endless joy and comfort, embodying a bond that only pet owners can fully appreciate.
Family was the cornerstone of Myrna’s life. She shared a special closeness with her mother, Norma Jean, and her sister, Darla. Myrna’s connection with her family extended to her brothers, Roger, Richard and Keith, as well as many nieces and nephews who benefited from her infectious spirit and creativity. Together, they create a circle of love that Myrna cherished deeply.
She will be laid to rest at Morningside Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, beside her beloved mother and sister, where she will forever remain close to those she loved most. Though Myrna has departed from our midst, her legacy of kindness, creativity, and love for her family will continue to be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Myrna is survived by her young brothers Richard and Keith, and an abundance of loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Merle, her mother Norma Jean, her sister Darla and her brother Roger and her cherished dogs Muffin, Mycroft and Little Sherlock. Myrna Leanne Hjellming will be missed deeply but celebrated fondly in the hearts of all who were touched by her warmth and spirit.
