Nels Alfredson

Nels Albin Alfredson, age 90, of Fridley, passed away on July 10, 2018. He is preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Paone and Evelyn Alfredson. Nels served during WWII in the U.S. Marine Corp and the Merchant Marine Maritime Service. On May 21, 1946 he married Elizabeth “Betty” Modeen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington, NC. After about a year he and Betty moved to Minnesota where they began their family. Nels and Betty were married for 72 years. In his spare time Nels enjoyed working in carpentry, even building their family lake home on Lower McKenzie Lake in Spooner, WI. He was a member of many organizations; American Legion of Richfield, Veterans of Foreign Wars #363, Mariners Viking Chapter, Masonic Lodge # 334, Scottish Rite, Zuhrah Temple and Legion of Honor. Survived by his wife, Betty; son, Mark (Mary) of East Bethel; daughters, Susan (John) Ritter of Coon Rapids, Nancy (Roger) Rymer of Ham Lake, Julie (Bob) Kirchoff of Coon Rapids and Amy (Darrell) Obodzinski of Ham Lake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
