Richard Allen Hastings

Richard Hastings, of Fridley, MN, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away on Wednesday, December 24th, 2025 at the age of 85. At the time of his death, he was a Disabled American Veteran and was fighting terminal cancer.

Richard was born on April 8th,1940 in Minneapolis, MN and was raised on a farm in Boyceville, Wisconsin. He graduated from Boyceville High School in 1958. He joined the Navy upon graduation, and served honorably for 4 years aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt Air Craft Carrier (CV 42).

He met Irma Hastings (Reimann) in rural Pennsylvania in 1962 when he brought her brother-in-law home from the Navy. It was love at first sight and they married 16 months later on August 24th, 1963. They then moved to Fridley, MN, where they resided the rest of their lives. Richard and Irma had recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2023, before Irma’s death in 2024.

Richard’s life was defined by his faith in God, love for family, and hard work. Richard owned his own Roofing/Siding company for 42 years. During his career, he worked on hundreds of homes throughout the Twin Cities and was known for high quality, winning several awards. Richard was also a 50 year Freemason and Shriner.

He is survived by his 3 children, David Hastings (Rochelle), Deb Diederich (Paul), and Terri Wold (Kevin); sisters, Susan Fredricksen and Lynda Hastings-Leonard; and 7 grandchildren, Carter Wold (Sammi), Mason Wold, Sydney Hastings, Lilli Wold, Ezra Diederich, Zoe Diederich, and Aaron Hastings.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irma Hastings; parents, Knox and Elizabeth Hastings; and brothers, Duane, Darreld, and Ronald Hastings.

Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home (6210 HWY 65 NE, Fridley, MN 55432) on Wednesday, January 7th from 5-7pm.  Funeral service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church (61 Mississippi St. NE, Fridley, MN 55432) on Thursday, January 8th at 11am.  An additional visitation will also take place at Redeemer Lutheran Church prior to the funeral from 10-11am.  He will be buried at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
