Theodore Smith

Sergeant Major Theodore (Ted) George Smith, USMC.

Ted passed away on February 20, 2023 at the age of 76. He was born on May 4, 1946 in Cadillac, MI to Theodore Ransom Smith, a farmer, and Mary Falkins. Ted served 29 years in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major. .He served 3 tours of duty during the Vietnam War for which he was decorated for valor. While serving as a drill instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, he met and married Linda. He settled his family in Minnesota when he was assigned to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of Minnesota. He was most proud of his sons who would both go on to graduate from the University of Minnesota and serve in the United States Marine Corps and Navy. He is survived by his wife Linda; sons, Theodore (TJ) and Wayne; daughters-in-law, Ann and Jill; and granddaughter, Madeline. Interment will take place on Tuesday, March 28 at 11:30 AM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with Military Honors.
