Alan Arthur Helwig, 56, of Spring Lake Park died on Monday March 23rd, of a heart attack.

Alan was born January 11th, 1964 in Minneapolis and was a lifelong resident of Spring Lake Park and most recently Bethel, MN. He graduated from Spring Lake Park High School in 1982,, and attended banking school.  He held jobs at ADM, Thermohome, Cummins Diesel, and most recently at Serums. He also served as a volunteer at Unity Hospital.

He is survived by his mother, Gladys Helwig;his two brothers, Troy Helwig (Tracy), and Darcy Helwig (Janice); his sister, Larissa Trygg (Rob); his niece, Ashley Helwig; his nephew and godson, Jayden; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by father, Arthur Helwig; grandparents, John and Elizabeth Becking and Casper and Agnes Helwig; and his niece, Amber Helwig.

Alan was a talented vocalist, song writer, and music fan; he recently fulfilled a dream of making a CD with his band the Green Canary. Alan was known for having a heart of gold and wanting to help others. He was a jovial and fun person to be around, and made friends easily. He had a great sense of humor with a sharp wit and infectious smile, always at the ready to joke around. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A Mass celebrating Al’s life will be held at a later date once restrictions are lifted.
