Eugene Graves

Eugene Francis Graves February 20, 1923 – 2019 It is difficult to express the dynamics of dad and his influence on the lives that he touched. Dad lived by a simple theology, which was, “always do the right thing, even when nobody is watching” He is an angel walking on earth. Dearly missed, Dad is a role model for us all.

Eugene Graves was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin, and at an early age moved with his family to Columbia Heights, Minnesota. Helping support his family, dad accompanied his father, Clarence J Graves Sr., in various endeavors. After WW2 broke out, dad eventually received his father’s permission to enlist underage in the Army Air Core. Following this, he was sent abroad trained and readied to defend our country. After the war, dad used the GI bill, receiving training in business and upholstery. Always one to take the high road, he continued steadfastly to help support his family. Attentive husband and father, dad stood by his family, creating love and loyalty unmatched. A few of the many things he enoyed was hunting, fishing, and a follower of his dreams, such as building a house in Canda and making it a home.

Dad seldom had an idle moment. Not one to look towards this sad day, he felt that every day was a fresh beginning. Many times it’s difficult to appreciate what one has. Fortunately, this is not the case with us. We are and have always been aware of the blessing God supplied by dad’s presence and guidance. Surrounded by his family, times steady progress eventually led to his unfortunate passing on November 19, 2019.

He is proceeded in death by his parents: Gladys and Clarence, and daughter Gloria Jean. Sorrowfully, dad is missed by his wife of 62 years, Jeanette Graves; his daughters Theresa Fender and Victoria Lacina; and son Gary Graves. Grandchildren: Jacob, Blaine, Ben, Joe, Rachel, and Sister Shirley.
