Fridley

Holm, Suzanne (Kuehn), age 79 of  Fridley, MN., passed away on October 10, 2019, from dementia-related issues.  She is survived by her husband, Bill; son, Thomas; and sisters, Colleen (Gordon) Loye and Kathryn Phillips.

Known as Suzie, Sue, or Suzanne, she was born and raised in Northeast Minneapolis.  She graduated from Edison High School and the University of Minnesota.  Her husband Bill always falsely claimed he was the smarter one in the family, but he actually knew better.  To prove the point, Suzie had a perfect score on her college entrance exam.  Bill didn’t come close.

After a brief career working for the State of Minnesota, Suzie concentrated on raising her son.  She was active in local PTA – including serving as president at Woodcrest Elementary - and other school activities.  Participated as a tutor/coach for children at the school.  Sue also planted and maintained a garden in the neighborhood park, and participated in other community activities.  A talented artist and quilter, Suzie twice won blue ribbons and sweepstakes awards at the Minnesota State Fair for her quilts.  The quilts were completely hand-stitched.  Her first quilt not only won the sweepstakes prize, but also served as her son’s bedspread for 18 years.  The Minnesota Historical Society asked her to donate that quilt for its museum.  Suzie obliged, and her work lives on.

Suzie had a unique talent for working with young children, either neighborhood kids who were interested in sewing, artwork, or gardening, but also befriending others

interested in doing odd jobs to earn a little money.  After her son was grown, she used this talent to work for several years in early childhood care and education.
