Shirley Olson, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away in her sleep on May 30, 2025, at the age of 85, in Cambridge, Minnesota. Born on July 30, 1939, in Haydenville, Minnesota, she was a beacon of positivity, encouragement, and optimism throughout her life.

Shirley's educational journey began at Abbott Hospital, where she received her LPN training, eventually earning her RN credentials and dedicating her life to the nursing profession. Over the years, she worked part-time at Abbot, Unity, and other hospitals, serving in various departments while she raised her family with unwavering love and commitment.

Family was of utmost importance to Shirley, and she took immense pride in raising five sons: Scott, Craig, Bradley, Jeffrey, and the late Timothy Kalpin. Her legacy continues through her thirteen grandchildren, who cherished her deeply: Tiffany Rico, Jason Kalpin, Simon Kalpin, Eric Kalpin, Britney Radel, Stephanie Kalpin, Andrea Palmberg, Cassandra Kalpin, Bethany Kalpin, Daniel Kalpin, Sabin Kalpin, Travis Kalpin, and Kaylee Kalpin. Additionally, she was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren: Cosette, Daniel, Evelyn, Benjamin, Josephine, Louise, Taelyn, Ashlyn, Taylor, Roman, Vincent, and Victoria.

As an avid writer and traveler, Shirley embraced life with a sense of adventure and creativity. Her deep commitment to her Christian faith was evident in her involvement with her prayer group, where she shared her warmth and kindness with others.

Shirley is survived by her brothers John, Dale, Arnold Gelling, and sister Ardys Thorson, who will remember her bright spirit and the love she infused into their lives. She also joins her departed loved ones, including her sister Lois Olson, her husband Loren Kalpin, her second husband Jim Olson, and her son Timothy Kalpin, all of whom she holds dear in memory.

Shirley's journey through life was characterized by her unwavering positivity and friendly demeanor. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her, and she will be missed dearly.

Visitation, funeral service, and luncheon will be held at the Miller Funeral Home located at 6210 Highway 65 NE, Fridley, MN 55432 on Friday, June 6 starting at 10 AM, 11 AM, and Noon, respectively.
